Dhanurasana
Dhanur Asana
In Sanskrit “Dhanu” means “Bow”. So the final position of Dhanurasana will look like a Bow. Therefore this is named as Dhanurasana.

Method:
Lie flat on your stomach on a Yoga Mat. Stretch your legs and put your arms straight on the floor by your sides. Bend both legs at the knee. Put both heels on the Buttock. Take both hands backwards. Hold the lower part or toes of the left leg by the left hand and the lower part or toes of right leg with right hand. Now slowly inhale and retain your breath. Raise your chest gradually after stretching the arms and legs towards the sky. Bend your neck backwards and look at the sky. Stretch your body and come to the final position. Hold your breath as long as possible and return to the initial position. Now straighten your legs and keep your arms by your side and relax. In the beginning it is enough to do it for two or three seconds. You can increase the time gradually. Later you can do this Asana upto 5 times.
Some persons need to refrain from this Asana. Those includes persons suffering from palpitation, blood pressure and hernia.
Benefits:

Dhanur Asana is complimentary to Bhujang Asana and Salabh Asana. By doing this Asana, you obtain the benefits of both. The back, spine, waist, stomach, chest, lungs, neck, legs and arms- all get the required exercise and are strengthened. It increases appetite. It relieves the stomach of gas. Obesity is cured. Disorders of Menstruation are set right. The chest becomes broad. The body becomes beautiful with full of vigour.
